Bishop Clay

Bishop ClayBishop Donald Owen Clay, Jr., a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, answered his call to preach the gospel while still in high school.  He is a graduate of WalnutHillsHigh School in Cincinnati.  He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Arizona in Tucson.  He also did some graduate study and taught at Miami of Ohio University in Oxford, Ohio and the University of Pittsburgh.

Bishop Clay began preaching at the age of fifteen and, like any teenager, he wanted to experience life as the world would deem “normal’, but what God had in store for him was far from the norm.  He was licensed into the gospel ministry on November 17, 1976 at Mt.SinaiBaptistChurch in Cincinnati, Ohio and ordained on November 25, 1979 at GraceTempleMissionaryBaptistChurch in Tucson, Arizona.  He began pastoring at the age of twenty in Middletown, Ohio.  Then in 1985, he was then called to pastor Mt.AraratBaptistChurch in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

During this time, violence in the inner city was growing rapidly.  It was against this backdrop that after many years of pastoring, Bishop Clay left the Baptist church.  He was unctioned by God to form a new, local non-denominational church in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  Bishop Clay and about 800 people took a giant step of faith in April 1994 and formed Petra International Ministries, Inc.

God has equipped Bishop Clay with tremendous love and wisdom that is always evident in his teaching and preaching.  His heart’s desire is to praise and worship God and to be an example in living a life of submission and obedience to the will of God.  Empowered with an apostolic anointing, Bishop Clay provides oversight for other assemblies throughout the country.  His prophetic messages give revelation of how to be released from the grip of false tradition and manmade structure in order to be free in the things of God.

Bishop Clay also loves music and is gifted as a musical composer.  The lyrics he writes and the gospel he teaches and preaches, draws the body of Christ into a desire for a closer relationship with Christ. Bishop Clay has received numerous awards and honors over the years including being in Who’s Who in America.  Having a heart for people, the work of Bishop Clay keeps him involved in many community projects.

Bishop Clay is happily married to Lisa A. Clay, (an Administrative Elder and Worship Leader of Petra), and he is the father of two wonderful children, Carli and Cameron Clay.
